April 25, 2017 marks the 145th anniversary of the creation on the lands of Belarus of a rescue society on the waters. The first organization of this society was formed on April 25, 1872, the district board of the society in Vitebsk province. The Belarusian lands were then part of the Russian Empire. In 1880, the Shipwreck Assistance Society was renamed the Water Rescue Society. This name has survived to the present day. In November 1892, the emperor granted the company the name "Imperial Russian Society for Saving on the Water."
