Julien C Sprott
I was first licensed as KN4BOM in 1955 at the age of 12 in Memphis, Tennessee (read story). I was very active mostly on CW during the great sunspot years of the late 1950s. While still in high school, I earned a DXCC and amateur extra. Then I went to college in 1960 at MIT and got a PhD in physics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1969. My professional interests are in experimental plasma physics and nonlinear dynamics (chaos). I am currently an emeritus professor of physics at the University of Wisconsin. I was only on the air sporadically over the past 50 years, but now in retirement, I'm chasing DX and contesting again, although the cute little ICOM IC-718 shown in the photo above has now been replaced with a more respectable ICOM IC-7600. See my last 50 QSO's.
- Since December 2015, some QSO's especially on weekends, have been from my second QTH near Muscoda, WI (Richland County, EN43te, ITU zone 7).
- During 2016, I activated National Parks AA11, LK01, HP20, LK03, MN25, MN61, WR05, WR06, MN02, NP55, NP03, NS20, TR07, TR08, TR14, TR15, MN66, AA05, NP48, MN28, RC06, NP06, MN20, NP02, NP08, MN54, RC10, NP09, MN47, MN77, NP40, MN05, TR19, NP25, PV09, NS04, TR11, NS21, PV15, NS06, NS34, NS35, TR05, NS44, HP13, NM15, TR12, NP39, HP01, NS78, HP15, MN18, HP11, TR04, LK02, MN78, AA04 as part of NPOTA.
- On March 26-27, 2016, I operated as VQ5E during the CQ WW WPX Contest from Turks & Caicos.
- On March 23-29, 2016 and March 18-21, 2017, I operated as VP5/W9AV from Turks & Caicos.
