3B       - Hans/PA0VHA  (RTTY)  and  Jack/PA3BAG  (SSB)  will  be  active   as
           3B8/homecall from  Mauritius  Island  (AF-049)  on  3-9  and  15-24
           November. From 10 to 14 November they will operate as  3B9/homecall

4U_UN    - The Daily DX reports that Pedro, HK3JJH hopes to be able to operate
           from 4U1UN [425DXN 648] on 11 and 12 October.
4X       - Look for Dov, 4Z4DX/m and Alex, 4Z5KJ/m to operate on 14265,  21265
           and 7065 kHz  from a few  Holyland Award squares  in the desert  on

9G       - Kees Heuvelman, PA0CJH  will be active  (on 80, 40,  20, 15 and  10
           metres mainly SSB) as 9G5JH from Accra, Ghana on 4-18 November. QSL

9H       - DL5XAT and DL5OB will be active  as 9H3SB and  9H3UD from Malta  on
           20-30 October, including  a Multi-Two  entry in  the CQ  WW DX  SSB

9Y4      - Bernd, DL6FBL will participate in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest as 9Y4ZC
           (SOAB HP) from Tobago  (SA-009). QSL via  DL6FBL (for this  contest
           only). 9Y4ZC is the newly issued callsign for Andy (ex 9Y4/DL4MEH),
           who will no longer use 9Y4TBG. Bernd will be at Andy's QTH from  22

BQ9_p    - A typhoon approaching the island caused  the flight from Taiwan  to
           Pratas to be first postponed for  24 hours and then cancelled.  The
           team had to take a commercial flight and the BQ9P DXpedition, which
           was expected to start on 7  October, became QRV on 9 October  after
           13 UTC. QSL via KU9C. [TNX The Daily DX]
C5       - Mark, ON4WW is active (on all HF bands CW and SSB) as C5WW from The
           Gambia until 17 October. QSL via ON4WW (please note that cards will
           be sent via the bureau in  November; direct cards will be  handled,

CE       - Marco, CE6TBN reports  that the  3G2D operation  from Damas  Island
           (SA-086)[425DXN 641], originally scheduled to  take place on  17-19
           October, has been postponed to 25-28 November.
CE0_ei   - Jacek, SQ9BOP will operate  SSB, RTTY and  FSK as CE0Y/SQ9BOP  from
           Easter Island (SA-001)  on 19-27 October.  QSL via SP6GVU  (Andrzej

CT       - Look for CT1GFK/P, CT1GPQ/P and CT2IHP/P to be active on 40, 20 and
           17 metres SSB and CW from Tavira Island (not IOTA, DIP AL-02)  from

CT3      - Ben, OZ5AAH/OZ5IPA will be active (CW  and SSB) as CT3/OZ5IPA  from
           Madeira (AF-014) from  21 October  until 2  November, including  an
           entry  in  the  International   Police  Association  Contest   (1-2

CU       - Ingo, DH5ST will be  active as CU2/DH5ST/p  from Sao Miguel  Island
           (EU-003), Azores on 9-23 November. He will operate on 10-80  metres

DL       - Look for Detlev,  DL1RTW/p to be  active (on 20,  30 and 40  metres
           "holiday style") from Ruegen Island (EU-057) on 11-16 October.  QSL

ER       - Special station ER8C will be active  until 14 October to  celebrate
           the City Day of Chisinau, capital of Moldova. QSL via ER1DA  either

F        - Six operators from the radio club  of Nancy (F6KIM) will be  active
           on all bands (except 50  and 432 MHz)  as TM5CRO from  Porquerolles
           Island (EU-070,  DIFM ME-010)  on 22-27  October. V/SHF  skeds  are

G        - Special event station GB2LSM will be active on 19 October from  the
           Long Shop Museum in Leiston, England. QSL via bureau. [TNX M3FEH]
G        - MB2HFC will be the call sign for the RSGB HF and IOTA Convention to
           be held in Manchester from  31 October to  2 November. The  station
           will be operational on  80-10 metres. QSL  via G4BWP. All  visitors

GM       - Andre, GM3VLB  plans  to  operate  CW  and  SSB  as  GM3VLB/p  from
           Inchmarnock (EU-123) on 10-13 October. [TNX GM3VLB]
GM       - Leo, W3LEO reports  he will  once again  be active  as MM0LEO  from
           Portpatrick in southwest Scotland from 13  October to 15  November.
           He plans to participate in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest. QSL via W3LEO.
GU       - Ron, G4DIY and Lee, G0DBE will be active 40-10 metres CW and SSB as
           GP0STH from Guernsey (EU-114) until 13 October. All of the contacts
           will be confirmed automatically via the bureau; direct cards go  to

HC       - Andy, NP3D reports he will  be active as  HC4/NP3D (QSL via  W3HNK)
           and HC4/NP3D/p (QTH to be announced, QSL via NP3D) from Ecuador  on
           19-28 October, CQ WW DX SSB Contest included. He will operate RTTY,
           CW and SSB on all HF bands, with  an emphasis on RTTY and the  WARC
           bands.
HC8      - Mike, G4IUF will be back to the Galapagos Islands (SA-004) from  15
           December until 11 January. He will  operate as G4IUF/HC8 on  10-160
           metres SSB and  CW, with  a better  LF antenna  if he  can get  the

HK0_sa   - The Florida DXPedition Group's team for the 20-28 October  activity
           from San Andres Island (NA-033) [425DXN 623] includes K4QD,  KR4DA,
           N1WON,  N2WB,  W1LR,   W4WX  and  W9AAZ.   They  will  operate   as
           HK0/homecall (QSL  HK0/N2WB via  N2OO, others  via home  calls)  on
           160-6 metres CW, SSB, RTTY, PSK31  and Hellschriber. Look for  5J0X
           (QSL via N1WON, direct or bureau)  during the CQ WW DX SSB  Contest

HR       - Joe, VE3BW will be active as VE3BW/HR6 from Roatan Island (NA-057),
           Honduras from 19 October to 2  November, including an entry in  the
           CQ WW DX  SSB Contest. Before  the contest he  will concentrate  on
           160-6 metres CW. QSL via home call. On 21 October he will be joined

I        - Alfredo, IK7JWX will operate from Molfetta Lighthouse (WAIL PU-016,

KH0      - JE1JKL, JF1SQC, JH1EAQ, JP1NWZ and JA5OVU  will be active as  KH0AA
           from Saipan, Mariana Islands (OC-086) on 23-27 October, including a
           Multi-Two entry in the CQ WW DX SSB Contest. QSL via JA5DQH, direct

KL       - Look for Keith, KL7KG/p to be  active on 20 metres SSB from  Mitkof
           Island (NA-041)  on 18-19  October. QSL  via home  call, direct  or

LA       - Rich, N0HJZ will be active from Norway before, during and after the
           CQ WW DX SSB Contest (25-26 October). The callsign will be LA/N0HJZ

LU       - Look for  LU7EGY/D,  LW5EOL/D and  LU1DMA/E  to  operate  from  Mar
           Chiquita Lighthouse (ARLHS ARG-044) on 26-27 October. QSL direct to

LZ       - Christo, LZ3FN will be active as  LZ3FN/p from several  lighthouses
           in Burgas region (southern Bulgaria) on 10-12 October. Look for him

OX       - Look for OX3UB  to participate in  the CQ  WW DX  SSB Contest  from
           Prins Christian Island (NA-151). QSL direct to OZ1GER. [TNX NG3K]
P2       - Andy, NU5O will be active as  P29AM from Papua New Guinea on  17-27
           October, CQ  WW DX  SSB Contest  included. Outside  the contest  he
           plans to  operate mostly  CW between  9 and  14 UTC  on +/-  14022,

T2       - Willi, DJ7RJ will be active as  T20MW from Tuvalu (OC-015)  [425DXN
           648] until  15  October.  On  20-28  October  he  will  operate  as
           KH8/DJ7RJ from American Samoa,  then he will  return home. QSL  via

TA       - Berkin, TA3J is active  (on 80, 40,  20, 15 and  10 metres SSB)  as
           TA3J/4 from Antalya Bababurnu Lighthouse  (ARLHS TUR-065). QSL  via

UR       - Club station UT7WZA will operate special  event call EN750WKD  from
           23 October  to 3  November to  celebrate the  750th anniversary  of
           prince Danylo  Halytskyi's  (the  founder  of  the  city  of  Lviv)

VK9_xms  - Charlie, W0YG  will  be  active  as  VK9XG  from  Christmas  Island
           (OC-002) from 26 October to 9 November. He plans to concentrate  on

W        - Mark, KG8DP  and the  Rusty  Zipper HF  and  DX Contest  Club  will
           operate as NA8KD  from Grassy Key  (NA-062) on  14-19 October.  QSL

W        - Look for Tom, WA6WPG/p to be  active (on 15 and  20 metres with  50
           watts and battery/solar panel) from San  Miguel Island (NA-144)  on

XE       - Rick, NE8Z will  be active  as XE2/NE8Z  from Cabo  San Lucas  (not
           IOTA) on 21-27 October. He plans  to concentrate on the WARC  bands

XU & XW  - Jaak, ES1FB  plans  to be  active  as  XU7ACE  from  Shianoukville,
           Cambodia on 19-28 October, including an  entry in the CQ WW DX  SSB
           Contest. Jaak also plans to go and operate as XU7ACV from Koh  Poah
           (AS-133) on 21-23 October, while between 30 October and 4  November
           he will be active (requested call XW1FB) from Vientiane, Laos. QSLs

ZL       - Roy, W6UKX reports he will be QRV as ZL/W6UKX from 16 October to  6
           November. He will operate 20 and 17m SSB and CW, and other bands as

AFRICA TOUR --->  Jose, ON4LAC will  be active as  3B8/ON4LAC from  Mauritius
(AF-049) from 28  October through 23  November and again  on 17-27  December.
Between 26  November and  15  December he  will  operate as  FR5/ON4LAC  from
Reunion (AF-016). He plans to  be QRV on  SSB, RTTY and  PSK31. QSL via  home

3C0V ---> The 3C0V operation from  Annobon went abruptly QRT around 10  local
time on 4  October. According to  Gaby, OD5NJ local  authorities ordered  the
operators to stop transmissions and leave  the island within  24 hours. On  6
October another report from Gaby indicated  that DJ9ZB, EA5FO and EA5YN  were
allowed to leave Annobon, while Elmo/EA5BYP apparently was still detained  on

DXCC NEWS ---> Bill Moore, NC1L  reports  that  the following  operations are

QSL 8Q7HX ---> Uwe, DJ9HX reports that direct cards for his August  operation

QSL YC9MT ---> Antonio, IZ8CCW reports this  is the new call for Sam,  YC9MB,
the only amateur  radio operator  living on  Sumba Island  (OC-151). QSL  via

QSL YI9X ---> Steve, OM3JW expects  to receive the first "simple" cards  from
the printer around the end of the month.  Photo QSLs will be ready no  sooner
than late December. Please be patient and do not send duplicates.

RA1QQ/1 (June 2003  IOTA operations) are  being processed and  mailed out  by
RA1QQ (Nick  A. Smerdov,  P.O. Box  24, Cherepovets  162611, Russia).  Please
refrain from sending second requests.

QSL VIA  VE3TPZ --->  James Davidson,  VE3TPZ is  the  QSL manager  for  VC2C
(Canadian & International) and has  taken on the  additional duties for  VB2R
(2000) and VB2V (2001). He has  started working on  clearing out the  backlog
bureau cards that he has recently received. Those who are awaiting a QSL card
you may e-mail James at ve3tpz@sympatico.ca and he will check the logbook and

VP5X --->  Fourteen-year-old  Daniel  Bradke,  W2AU  is  the  winner  of  the
competition sponsored by  the VP5X Contest  Group [425DXN  640]. Daniel  will
receive an  all expense  paid trip  (one full  week) to  join the  VP5X  team
(http://www.vp5x.com/) for the CQ WW CW Contest.

+ SILENT KEY  + YASME pioneer  Danny Weil (VP2VB)  died on 3  October in  San
Antonio (Texas) at 85 years of age. Born in England, Danny left his  homeland
in 1954 in a boat he made by himself in order to travel the world alone.  "In
1963, after 9 years, 3 boats and  travels to the Atlantic, the Carribean  and
the Pacific Islands, Danny completed his  around the world voyage. Needing  a
means of  communication,  he taught  himself  Morse Code,  radio  theory  and
obtained a British Amateur radio license. Sailing single handedly around  the
world was a trip he volunteered to  undertake on behalf of radio 'hams'.  His
voyage was integral in setting up  ham radio stations  on remote islands  and
the expedition was monitored by over 100,000 amateur radio enthusiasts around
the world. He is remembered by most 'hams' as 'the first DXpeditioner'". [TNX

+ SILENT KEY + Jack, VK2GJH reports the  passing of Ian Anderson, T20AA on  3
October, of a heart attack. Ian  was very active on HF  and 6 metres,  mostly
